Government

The City of Genoa’s purpose is “..the peace, order and good governance” of the municipal district as defined in the Local Government Act of 1989. The City of Genoa operates under the Mayor/Aldermanic form of government with an elected Mayor and eight Alderman. The City provides a wide range of services including police protection, water supply, sanitary sewer collection and treatment, storm water collection, public works operations, road maintenance, building and inspection services, development planning and general administrative services. In addition to the City Council, the City also has a Plan Commission, Economic Development Commission, Police and Fire Commission, Liquor Commission, Tree Board and Police Pension Board which are comprised of 25 dedicated City of Genoa residents.
