Transportation

Access to Interstate 90 is only 13 miles northeast of Genoa and provides direct access to Chicago and its northwest suburbs. Genoa is located just 15 miles east of Interstate 39, a major north/south link. In addition, Interstate 88, located 17 miles to the south, enables our community to access the western suburbs to the east and the Quad Cities to the west.

Illinois Routes 23 and 72 intersect at the city's eastern business district. Route 23 has grown to become the major north-south thoroughfare west of Route 47. Route 72, which passes directly through the downtown area, is a major east-west artery (Higgins Road) to the northwest suburbs.

Genoa is served by two freight rail systems, Illinois Central and I&M Rail Link. Both provide sidings for our industrial base. The I&M Rail Link has been identified by the Greater Rockford Airport Authority as its primary choice for a high-speed passenger rail link between its airport and Chicago O'Hare. Passenger rail is currently available from METRA's Big Timber station in Elgin, 20 miles to the east.

]Four airports provide air service for Genoa. DeKalb's Taylor Municipal Airport is located just 17 miles to the south and is equipped with a hard-surface runway, instrument landing system and ground service for business jets, chartered flights and private aircraft.

The Greater Rockford Airport provides regional air transportation for both passenger and freight travel and is just a 30-minute drive. It also feature a Trade Zone Warehouse O'Hare International Airport is located off Interstate 90, just 50 miles to the east. A fourth alternative is Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport less than a two-hour drive from Genoa. It can be a convenient alternative to O'Hare during peak travel times.
