The City Council Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building at 113 N. Genoa St. The telephone number at the Municipal Building is 784-2327. The Municipal Building maintains regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The police station is located at 113‡ N. Genoa St. A clerk is on duty from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Sycamore police department answers calls placed outside of these hours. The Sycamore Police dispatches all 911 calls. The Public Works Department, staffed by a Supervisor and seven full-time employees, maintains services for the water, wastewater and street departments. The city has three wells and two water towers. The wastewater treatment facility, located on Route 72 West, has been in operation since 1976 and treats 530,000 gallons of wastewater each day. The system has the capacity to process 780,000 gallons per day. Police DepartmentThe Genoa Police Department has a full-time chief; eight full-time officers and five part-time officers. The Police Department is a twenty-four-hour department for all emergency and non-emergency calls. Administrative Clerk hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Questions on city ordinances, state laws, and notary services can be handled during business hours, or an officer is available to help at any time. The Sycamore Police Department dispatches for the Genoa Police Department. You can call twenty-four hours a day for emergencies by dialing 911. For all non-emergency calls, please use the 784-6633 administrative phone line. For convenience, there is a telephone in the Municipal building foyer area for emergency and non-emergency calls after business hours. Fire, Rescue, and AmbulanceEmergency ServicesThe Genoa-Kingston Fire Protection District and the Genoa-Kingston Rescue Squad provide Genoa's Emergency Services. Both are supported by local property taxes supplemented with fund-raisers and donations. Together they provide the community with some of the most professional emergency services in the area. Mutual aid agreements with area fire departments and ambulance services provide additional equipment and personnel when needed. Between the two organizations they own eight fire-fighting vehicles, two rescue vehicles and three ambulances and operate out of three stations providing service to residents in an area of approximately 75 square miles. Fifty-five men and women volunteer their time and talents to provide these services. They are trained in the latest techniques and have modern equipment and supplies to provide life safety and protection of property. Members' skills range from recruit-level to many years of experience and State Certification in various programs. Please contact Public Works at 784-2271 for change of address notification. Payment of bills is due within 20 days of the postmark date on the invoice, after which a $10 or 10 percent of the total bill late fee is charged to the unpaid balance. Genoa has a weekly trash pickup. Garbage must be placed on the parkway in tightly covered containers or extra heavy-duty plastic bags. Trash pickup north of Main Street is Monday, and pickup south of Main Street is Tuesday. Fees are billed every other month with your water-sewer service invoice. The city offers a recycling program and pick up is the same day as garbage. Recyclable items include newspapers; clear, green and brown glass, all cans tin and aluminum, #1 and #2 plastic bottles and milk containers, kraft bags, corrugated cardboard and chipboard. The trash pickup contractor provides containers. Lawn waste is also is picked up on the same day. Full information is available at the municipal building. A burning ban is in effect from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. Internet AccessLocal dial-up Internet access is available through TBC Group. For more information, call (815) 899-4600. Express ServicesA Federal Express drop box is located in front of the Citizens First National Bank at 327 West Main Street. United Parcel Service and many other express carriers provide services to businesses in the community. Dog TagsAll dogs must be registered at the Municipal Building at 333 E. First Street, 784-2327 There is a $5 fee for a tag to be attached to the dog's collar. Public Library232 W. Main St. Sundays September thru May: Noon to 4 p.m. Free library card with proof of residency in the city limits of Genoa, which is our taxing district, you are entitled to a library card. All others in the Genoa-Kingston School District must pay a fee equivalent to the taxes levied of those in the district. Out of district fees are calculated yearly. The Genoa Library was founded in l922 by the local P.E.O. Sisterhood, which operated it for 38 years with members as volunteer librarians. In 1962 it became a tax-supported city library and now is a district library serving the Genoa Library District with more than 15,000 books; hundreds of records, audio and videocassettes, and more then 60 magazine subscriptions. The district parallels the City of Genoa. The library has a large collection of print books and access to unlimited books and library materials for the patrons from the Northern Illinois University Library System. The library offers a computer for use to the public. The Genoa Library now has a materials collection of nearly 23,000 books, DVD's, CD music and CD books, videos, books on cassette and over 60 magazine subscriptions. The library carrys the DeKalb County Chronicle, the DeKalb Community News, and the Midweek newspapers. Our newspaper collection of the local Genoa paper, dates from 1895 thru to the present. We have access to materials world wide for the patrons of the library. We have 8 internet computers for patron use, and 4 other computers for patrons to use for word processing. There are also copying and faxing services available. Post OfficeThe new Genoa Post Office at 705 Pearson Drive has approximately 1,000 delivery points in Genoa and surrounding areas. Plans are underway for a new, larger facility to serve the area. Window hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:30 - noon on Saturday. The outer lobby is open for Post Office Box holders and inside mail drops 24 hours a day. Out-of-town mail also may be placed in the drop box at the west end of Citizen's First National Bank's parking lot for out-of-town dispatching prior to 6:20 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. There also are drive-up mail drops located outside the post. Out-of-town mail will be picked up for dispatching at 6:20 a.m., and at 5:l0 p.m. from the out-of-town boxes. Local mail placed in the drop marked "Genoa Only" will be delivered the same day if deposited before 6:30 a.m. Health Care

Medical Clinic (Dr. Steve DiSanti (D. O.), and Genoa has ready access
to three markets for acute hospital care.
The Genoa-Kingston Rescue Squad provides emergency
ambulance service to all of these facilities. In emergencies, air transport
is available. In addition, Genoa has two dentists, an optometrist and
a chiropractor

For more information, please call (815) 895-2711. EducationHigher education is convenient to Genoa. Most prominent is Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. NIU is noted for its outstanding business college, including a highly rated accounting program. Genoa is located in the Kishwaukee Community College District with the main campus located in Malta, 20 miles to the southwest. Both of these institutions have been extremely cooperative in assisting local business and industry with their specialized needs. Rockford College, Rock Valley Community College, Elgin Community College, and Waubonsee College are all within short driving distances from Genoa. Bicycle Registration Genoa Police Station News MediaA variety of media serve Genoa. Radio stations include four radio stations in DeKalb -- WLBK (AM), WDKB (FM), and WNIU (FM), and WSQR (AM) in Sycamore. Cable television service is provided by Charter Communications. There is one daily and two weekly newspapers serving the Genoa community. The Daily Chronicle, based in DeKalb serves the entire DeKalb County area. The Genoa-Kingston-Kirkland News and The MidWeek are weekly publications serving the area. The Rockford Register Star, Elgin Courier, Daily Herald, Chicago Tribune, and Chicago Sun-Times also are widely available.
