On behalf of the citizens of Genoa, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our fine community.

Thank you for visiting the City of Genoa’s homepage. Whether you are a city resident, a business in need of assistance, or one of the thousands of visitors planning a shopping visit to our exciting Main Street, you'll notice our website rich with a variety of information and resources to guide you and meet your needs. I hope you will find this site informative and easy to navigate. It is also an efficient new way to communicate with various Genoa officials.

This site is just one of many new services and programs happening in the Genoa community. The variety of special events and activities highlight the diverse aspects of our people that make the Genoa community unique. From the founding of our community in 1835, the Genoa legacy is not the result of a few individuals, but of a legacy of hard-working residents committed to creating an environment that enhances the quality of life for all families, friends, neighbors and visitors. Genoa is an exciting place to do business and raise a family.

If you are visiting the Genoa Website as a Genoa resident, one of our goals is to connect you with your city services. This site contains a wealth of information, from the weekly meeting agendas of the City Council, to general information about City departments and services. This site serves as a one-stop resource for the latest and most up-to-date City news, events and programs. I also challenge you to use this resource to learn more about Genoa's rich and vivid history and vibrant future. Find a great place to eat or a new place to live. As you will see, Genoa offers a unique rural experience and dynamic community life for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

If you ever have any questions that cannot be answered by using the Website, I encourage you to contact us directly. As your City officials, we welcome your ideas, feedback, and suggestions for how we can better serve our community. Please check back often, as this site is consistently being modified to provide you additional on-line resources to address the changing needs or our residents and consumers.

More about your Mayor

As Mayor of the City of Genoa I represent the needs of our residents and I am responsible for the day-to-day operation of departments serving our residents. My authority extends to running each department efficiently and effectively to provide the necessary services to the citizenry, including the safety, well-being and quality of life for all individuals. I serve as the chair of the City Council and preside over Council meetings and see that ordinances passed by the City Council are enforced. I also represent the City at public and ceremonial events.

Elected in 2001 to a four-year term I campaigned to "unite the community" and "rebuild relationships with our other taxing bodies and community organizations."  In keeping with these pledges, I strive to be an accessible mayor; keeping an open door policy so the viewpoints of all can be heard on the issues at hand. Creating our new website, community newsletter, and email addresses for staff and Council Members enhances communication between you and our government.  Holding public open houses and workshops on community issues enhances participation in the decisions that affect Genoa today and in the future.

Within my term of office, our City Council has adopted new School and Park Impact fees that will assist our educational system in offsetting the burden of growth.  We have concentrated on our continued effort for the advancement of professionalism in municipal government.  This is evident by the hiring of a new Police Chief and our first ever Economic Development Coordinator.  These are a few of the changes that will place us well on our way to making a difference for our community.

Being no stranger to municipal government affairs, I hope to utilize my professional experience to benefit the needs for our community. As it relates to my personal life, I have three children who will inherit the decisions that are made during my term. With this said, I do not take the responsibility as Mayor lightly for I understand what is at stake.

Thank you for your interest in our great city and I hope you enjoy using Genoa-il.com. If there is anything I can do to facilitate your acquaintance with Genoa, please do not hesitate to call upon me at any time. Please send us your comments and suggestions on how we may improve our site.

Sincerely,

Todd A. Walker, SPHR, ARM
