Capital Projects

 

The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing a wide range of capital improvement projects, including:

  • Roadway Resurfacing and Reconstruction: Managing roadway resurfacing, reconstruction, and pedestrian improvements to enhance transportation infrastructure.
  • Underground Utility Replacement: Overseeing the replacement of underground utilities as part of system upgrades.
  • Survey, Design, and Construction Management: Directing field surveys, design, documentation, and construction management, either through Public Works staff or by engaging an engineering consulting firm for specific projects.
  • Coordination with Other Entities: Collaborating with adjacent municipalities, DeKalb County, and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to coordinate joint capital improvements.

In addition to these duties, the Public Works Director is also responsible for:

  • Grant Funding Pursuit: Actively seeking grant funding opportunities for improvement projects. With City Council approval, the Director applies for grants that can either expand the scope of certain projects or provide funds for other necessary City projects.

This role ensures the successful execution of infrastructure upgrades and the effective use of external funding to support the City’s development.
