Downtown Revitalization Project
The City’s Downtown Revitalization Project has begun! The Contractor began the area north of Route 72 mid-June and will continue block by block before carrying on to the south side of Route 72. Once the project is complete, new curbs and sidewalks in many areas will have been installed, with electrical cables buried beneath brick pavers along the back of the curb and new black lantern type lighting installed- a nod to Genoa’s historic downtown. At this point in time, the project is expected to be completed by the end of August, however, rain days may extend this timeline.
The project above is considered Phase 1 of 3 of the Project. Phase 2 is the installation of crosswalks and Phase 3 of the project is a gathering space to be placed on South Emmett Street. After significant public input with concept plans (images 1-4 below) revised to meet the community’s needs, a final concept plan can be seen below (image 5). This new concept includes recreational activities such as jumbo chess, a children’s playhouse, bag games, seating, as well as space for both concerts as well as food trucks.
While this project could not be completed this summer with Phase 1, the City is seeking funding sources such as the DCEO’s RDMS/RISE Grant opportunities with the intention of completing the project in 2025.
