Waste Management Refuse and Recycling
Waste Management is the contracted waste removal service for the City of Genoa. Collection is only for residents within City limits.
Residents are supplied with 2 separate totes. Garbage is green or brown; Recycle is green with a yellow top. No trash will be collected in boxes. Toters are to be left at the property when a previous resident leaves, however, if new residents need a tote they can contact the City when they move in and the City will contact Waste Management to deliver a new tote.
Collection Schedule for Garbage & Recycle Totes:
- Monday for residents on the North side of Route 72
- Tuesdays for residents on the South side of Route 72
Toters should be placed at the curb the night before or by 5:00 am on collection day.
Garbage Rates Effective 5/1/2020:
- $25.50/month
- Senior Rate (All household residents over 65)- $19.25/month
Waste Management Observed Holidays – No pickup:

- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
If a holiday falls on a scheduled collection day, the schedule gets pushed back one day. Therefore, Monday collections would be on Tuesday, and Tuesday collections would be on Wednesday.

Recycling Reminders:
Plastic bags and wraps, food waste, or recyclables in plastic bags can all ruin a load of recycling. Take plastic bags back to a local retailer for recycling.

At Your Door Program
Waste Management provides residents with an “At Your Door” service for electronic recycling and other materials that should not be disposed of in the normal waste bin such as oil, TVs, and household cleaners. Below a few helpful informational links for residents.

Waste Management will also offer an organic waste program for kitchen waste. This service will be offered during the yard waste months (April-October) and will be at an additional fee. This program is a pilot program, and residents must sign up to the program individually. Please call the City at 815-784-2327 for more information.
Yard Waste Collection Program
2020 brush pick up is April 13 through October 13th, with two extended pick-up days on November 2nd and November 23rd.
- City crews will pick up brush every Monday or the day after if there is a holiday.
- Residents’ brush must be stacked along the curb or road edge to be picked up by City crews.
- Residents stacking brush in the alley need to contact City Hall no later than 8:30 am Monday for pick up.
Please make sure brush is stacked neatly in one direction, not tied, with the cut ends towards the street. The chipper is limited to 4-inch diameter limbs and will not chip Y sections of tree limbs exceeding the 4-inch limit. Please do not leave brush in the street or hanging over the curb. Fine brush clippings, weeds, and yard and garden waste are not accepted with brush pick up, but will be picked up on your garbage day if in the brown Kraft bags or e a 35 gallon garbage can and clearly print ‘yard waste’ on the container.
Yard Waste Pickup Pickup is from April (Either 4/6 or 4/7, depending on whether their garbage is picked up on a Monday or Tuesday) through November (11/30 or 12/1) the last refuse day. If a resident wishes to get rid of yard waste (including leaves) they can either purchase yard waste bags or they can purchase a 35 gallon garbage can and clearly print ‘yard waste’ on the container. Please do not blow leaves into the street or rake them to the curb. Public Works does not have the correct equipment to suck up leaves and leaves in the street clog the City’s Street Sweeper.
